There have been some questions surrounding seasonal water shut offs. Upon checking the Village Code of Ordinances, the Village charges $50 to re-start water if a customer request it shut off for any reason. This includes season water shut-offs for part-year residents that ask their water be shut off during the winter months.
“52.116 REQUESTED SHUT-OFF.
If user requests water to be shut off, there will be a $50 fee to have the water turned on again.”
It should be noted that if a customer needs to turn off their water service for the purposes of a plumbing emergency or repair, they should use the water shut off valve within their home or building. The water shut off valve in the meter pit is property of the Village of Oreana and residents are prohibited from accessing it. The valves and meters within the meter pits can be damaged and can only be accessed by Village of Oreana Employees and/or contractors.
§ 50.07 TAMPERING WITH DEVICES.
It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to damage, remove, obstruct, tamper with or deface any part of the village water system, including, but not limited to, water mains, hydrants, pumps, buildings, wells, meter pits, meters and remote meter reading devices.
§ 10.99 GENERAL PENALTY.
(1) Any person convicted of a violation of any section of this code shall be fined not less than $75, nor more than $750, for any one offense.
